It was my very first live interview for an Internet radio show. I thought I would be more nervous, but Kelli and her co-host, Regina Smola, were so gracious that it was just like chatting with friends!

I “met” Kelli on Twitter, so you could say that we’re friends after all.

One of the very first how-to-make-money-online reports I ever bought was Jimmy Brown’s S.M.A.L.L. Reports Fortune. I read that report very carefully and then dutifully started typing out my very first special report.

That was the easy part. I find writing to be a breeze. It’s easy for me to plan and organize a how-to material. 14 years of writing in the United Nations gave me excellent training. But halfway through, I froze.

“Who the hell do you think you are, anyway?”

“You don’t even have a Master’s Degree – why should anybody listen to you?”

“Really, nobody’s interested in this stuff!”

Those were the thoughts running in my head as I closed the Google Doc file, never to look at it ever again.

Fast forward 12 months later. Not only have I finished writing my very first completed special report, but I have actually begun selling it and even – gasp – recruiting affiliates for it.

What happened in between? Well, let’s see, several things have happened:

1. I learned Internet marketing.

Since I began working from home a year ago, I haven’t been freelance copywriting only. I’ve also gone into blogging and affiliate marketing. I’ve created several monetized blogs and have earned my first several hundred dollars online.

The journey has been tumultuous. A year ago, I was simply overwhelmed by everything I needed to learn about Internet marketing. If you told me to build a website and then drive traffic to it, I wouldn’t know the first thing to do. Now, I’m in a place where I feel confident that I know what I’m doing. I know what works. I’ve had small successes, such as doubling the traffic to one blog and increasing Adsense income two-fold. I know how to do online “stuff”. I just need to scale them up to increase my online income.

2. I enrolled in Ed Dale’s 30-Day Challenge Plus

The focus of this membership program is to create information products. That’s the business model Ed is teaching his students to move from the 30-Day Challenge of making your first $1 online, to earning your first $1,000. One of the lessons that really struck me was when Ed pointed out all the teens who were posting videos on YouTube and getting millions audiences. They weren’t slick. Heck, most of them weren’t even good singers or whatever it was they were doing. But the point was, these teens felt they had something to offer and went ahead and put it out there. So if they can do it, so can I.

3. I read “The Unlimited Freelancer.”

This E-book is what finally pushed me into publishing my first special report. It pushed me over the edge. It showed me just how profitable and wonderful my home business could be, and how. Before reading The Unlimited Freelancer, I knew I could only earn so much because I could only work a couple of hours a day. But now, I realize that didn’t have to be a limitation. Click here to read a more detailed account of my experience with “The Unlimited Freelancer.”

4. I have nurtured a network of online friends and mentors.

One of the very first things I ever did to launch my home-based business was to join Mom Masterminds. Little did I know back then just how important that step would be. It was one of the best decisions I ever made! The wonderful ladies in Mom Masterminds have been there with each step I took, from the very basic “make a professional website” to “this is how you launch your infoproduct.” Kelly McCausey and Lynette Chandler, the head mentors at Mom Masterminds, have been generous with their honest advice, practical help and the occasional butt-kickin’ But come to think of it, so has the rest of the members of MM.

Without this network of Internet marketing Moms, I would not be where I am now. I would probably be broke and still clueless about how to make money online. If you’re an Internet marketer, there is no way you will succeed without a network. Just look at how the millionnaire gurus are doing it – they promote each other’s products to their massive lists. No wonder they’re making millions!

I should also mention that I got very practical help from Lynn Terry through her Self-Starters Weekly Tips Elite brainstorming group. It’s not open to membership right now, but as soon as it opens again, you should definitely sign up (if you aren’t a member yet). Lynn’s “Fast Cash Strategy” and the other resources she recommended gave me the practical how-to to finally complete my infoproduct and start marketing it.

I must say, Jimmy Brown’s report make the marketing part seem easier than it actually is. I now realize that I wasn’t ready a year ago to do this, even if I had wanted to. Even if I did finish my infoproduct then and begin selling it, I would have probably made little or no sales and no profit whatsoever. And then I would have gotten discouraged and sworn off Internet marketing forever.

So I guess the timing is just right.

Where was this guide when I was getting started online a year ago? This would have saved me hours of learning and hundreds of dollars in training materials! This workbook is author Kelly McCausey’s “labor of love” and it shows. It is the most complete guide to making money online that I have ever read.

Kelly begins by urging the reader to do a thorough self-assessment of skills, experience, personality, interests and even spiritual gifts. Then she guides the reader to an analysis of a target market – a step that many home-based workers gloss over.

Click here to read more about The Complete Internet Marketing Moms Start Up Guide

And then Kelly gives a step-by-step guide to the various components of a home-based Internet marketing business. She covers websites and blogging, article marketing, social networking, Email marketing, even infoproduct marketing and podcasting. She also gives tips on how to get work done at home when small children are underfoot. There’s so much more in this workbook – copywriting, press releases, paid advertising and more – that I just cannot name them all, for fear of getting as long as the workbook itself.

As usual with Kelly’s infoproducts, this workbook is well written, easy to understand, clear and action-oriented. The recommended services, websites and other resources are also valuable – again, I wish I’d had this workbook much earlier.

The only thing I’m looking for is a diagram to tie all the pieces together. That’s because I’m a visual person and like to see the big picture of things, to have a mind map of sorts that will keep me from getting “lost”. Other than that, this is an excellent guide indeed.

And even though I’ve been marketing online for almost a year now, I still found a number of nuggets. I’ll definitely be keeping this workbook handy to refer to when I expand into new arenas of Internet marketing…. There could be a podcast in my future, after all.

Almost a year ago, I posted about experiencing information overload while trying to figure out this Internet marketing thing. Well the other day, it dawned on me that I no longer felt information overload. I no longer felt like a newbie. I can actually understand all the Internet marketing jargon. And whenever I receive an E-mail trying to sell me yet another Internet marketing product, I could easily tell if it was something worth my time, effort and money. I am now confidently deleting those E-mails rather than getting seduced by the gurus’ slick copywriting and bonuses.

I can credit my newfound confidence and focus to finding the right teachers. One of them is Amy Bass, a homeschooling Mom of 4 who recently launched a membership site to teach others how to make money from blogs. Amy blogged herself out of a $72,000 debt and is now earning $5,000 a month.

I signed up for the Niche Blogger because Amy promised to teach her system step by step through daily lessons, which you can do at your own pace. She also answers your questions via a blog — that’s something you will almost never get from any other Internet marketing expert.

Of course, the fact that Amy is a stay at home Mom like me was a big plus. It meant that she knew my constraints and challenges, that she faced them herself and could understand my limitations.

I asked around before finally joining the Niche Blogger. Internet marketing Mom Jackie Lee told me that, although she was not new at Internet marketing, she was surprised to learn some new stuff.

I found the case to be the same for me as well. The first lessons – involving signing up for hosting and registering a domain name – were too basic for me. But after that, everything was pretty much new. I like Amy’s system for promoting a blog so that it gets indexed (and ranking) by Google fast. In fact, I used this same system for a non-profit blog that I put up. The site was indexed by Google overnight and it is now number 1 for its target keywords.

Following the Niche Blogger’s formula for marketing a blog, I have managed to slowly increase traffic to an old blog and the new one, which I developed from the beginning using Niche Blogger’s blueprint, is beginning to pick up traffic as well.

Amy is the first to say that her system takes time. It is not a get-rich-quick scheme. You will have to do a lot of work before you can earn a full-time income with this system. It involves a lot of market research and writing – so much in fact that I almost got sick of writing myself.

If you hate writing, the members share their own discoveries through the Niche Blogger forum. You will find out where to get good-enough articles written at $1.50 each. Even though I write for a living, I just might use that route for my next niche blog.

Although the lessons are written daily, you can go at your own pace. I found myself logging into the membership site whenever I had some free time, eager to see what the day’s lesson was. Sometimes, it would take me a few minutes to implement the lesson; sometimes it took days. Sometimes, the rest of my life took over and I wouldn’t be able to log in for days on end. I never felt like I was being left behind or anything. And I always looked forward to what new skill or strategy was in store for me. Amy made learning Internet marketing fun

There’s a lot of good content to learn in Niche Blogger. As a regular member, you get access month to month. When you sign up for lifetime membership (I did; it was the most cost-effective option), you get access to all the content at once. And Amy continues to add content indefinitely. Right now, there are 5 months of content and I am in month 4.

Is the Niche Blogger for you? If you want to make money by running a number of websites and your Internet marketing skills are from complete beginner up to intermediate, then this is for you. Again, this is not a get-rich-quick scheme. If you’re willing to put in the time and effort, then this will work.
