I Hired a Virtual Assistant
The Whys and Hows of Hiring a Virtual Assistant

One of the very first things I did after buying a website was to hire a virtual assistant. A virtual assistant is a person you contract to do administrative and other tasks for you. You never have to meet face to face. Virtual assistants perform tasks in their own home offices using their own equipment.
I hired a virtual assistant because, as a new website owner, I was completely overwhelmed with what needed to be done so I could start earning money from the site. At that point, I was getting very little sleep (for various reasons) and was stressed out. Besides, my virtual assistant knew much more about website maintenance and promotion than I did. One thing I learned from office work is to outsource tasks that you are not good at.
Was it a wise decision to hire a virtual assistant before I even started making any money from the site?
I think so. Not only did my virtual assistant complete the task faster than I could have (while I caught up on sleep and tended to my family). She also gave me advice on how to improve the site’s profitability. Sure, I ended up spending much more for the site than I had expected. But in the long run, it’s worth while.
The bottom line is, now that the site is more profitable, it will take me less time to recover my investment — including the virtual assistant’s fees — than if I had done the work myself.
Too bad we cannot predict the impact of hiring a virtual assistant to our profits!

Congratulations on hiring a VA! You have admitted what many other small business owners struggle with…you need help. So many business owners try to go it alone only to realize they either don’t have the time or skills to accomplish some of the necessary tasks to run a successful business.
Again, congratulations and best of luck!
You don’t know how many times I’ve heard a new client say “I wish I would have called you months ago!”. So many entrepreneurs wait until they’re ready to drop from exhaustion before getting help with the tasks that they don’t even like to do. Congratulations on your successes, and I wish you many more!
@ sherra & melodee – looks like va’s need to educate business owners about how much we really need you. thanks for your best wishes!
